Our Mission

Amedia’s mission is to support a vibrant democracy. We achieve this through fact-checked, balanced journalism that empowers people to make informed decisions. By giving communities a voice and assisting individuals navigate the complexities of their world, we uphold the essential role of the media in society.

Our Ownership

As the owner of 107 newspapers, having 20 partner newspapers in Norway and being co-owner of 65 Swedish titles through Bonnier News Local, Amedia has unparalleled insight into Norway’s and the Nordic region's media landscapes. Our foundation ownership ensures that profits are reinvested into journalism, fostering strong editorial media for the future.

Our History

The modern Amedia was formed in 2012 through the merger of A-pressen and Edda Media. These two entities, representing both the labour press and civic press traditions, trace their roots back nearly 200 years. Today, Amedia manages a diverse portfolio of newspapers, including Nationen (representing Norway's farmers' movement) and Nettavisen (reflecting liberal traditions).

Berlingske, founded in 1749, is Amedias oldest newspaper. Our oldest Norwegian newspaper, Drammens Tidende (formerly Tiden), was established in 1832, underlining our longstanding contribution to Norway's press history.

Standing stronger together in the Nordics

Amedia has acquired the Danish media group Berlingske Media, owner of Denmark's oldest newspaper, Berlingske, as well as B.T., Weekendavisen, and the digital financial media site Euroinvestor. Our goal is to preserve and further develop Berlingske Media’s strong position and well-recognized brands.

The Nordic media industry is now at a critical crossroads. Global trends are increasingly shaping the competitive landscape for media companies in Norway and across the Nordic region. These shifts create significant challenges, requiring both individual newspapers and the industry, as such, to adapt to fundamental changes in media consumption habits.

While we will continue to compete fiercely for journalistic excellence every day, it is equally important to strengthen collaboration across organizations. Together, we can better navigate the transition to a fully digital media landscape, and be better prepared for the challenges posed by global competitors.

By standing together, we can tackle major challenges and seize new opportunities. This collective effort makes us better equipped to preserve and enhance our unique role in people’s lives and our democracies. A battle we must win to safeguard the vitality of our democratic societies.
